Next Volunteer Day – TBD
It was chilly and breezy, but sunny and clear for our Restoration Day on November 22nd, when we had seventeen volunteers show up to help us take down dead trees, cut down grapevines, and especially build fire breaks (in anticipation of our next controlled burn).

After an incredible Volunteer Day on September 13th, we had an even bigger showing for the the Volunteer Day on October 11, when we were fortunate to have NINETEEN volunteers show up to help us remove buckthorn, grapevines and teasel along the fence we share with the railroad, and around the northwest pond. As usual, we cleared the grate on the creek, allowing it to flow freely into the Des Plaines River and better support the wildlife in it, such as frogs, fish and snakes. We also mowed the maintenance trail next to the creek. Along with other hard-working volunteers, we were lucky to get help from Boy Scouts from various troops,

| A TOAD-ALLY EXCELLENT DAY This little guy, who appears to be an American Toad (Anaxyrus americanus), seemed very interested in our labors during the Sept 13 Volunteer Day. We’re lucky to always have wildlife observing the work we do. It’s one of the perks of volunteering, seeing the fauna among the flora at Santa Fe. | ![]() |
